​​Preferred Pen Enabled Devices

Moranbah State High School has a BYOD program for students in Years 7–12.

Laptops must meet specific requirements to be approved to connect to the School managed network. Please see specifications below. The school has links with two retailers as an op​tion for parents purchasing a Bring Your Own (BYOD) device. The use of these retailers is not mandatory and they are provided as a convenience for parents. Links to the retailer websites are below on this page.

Joining the program

All students will be required to complete the agreement document in the enrolment pack​ prior to the commencement of studies at Moranbah State High School. 

Information for the BYOD Program

PLEASE NOTE: Snapdragon,Chromebook and Android Devices DO NOT CONNECT to the school network. 

BYOD minimum specifications

To be able to connect to the School managed network your laptop operating system/software must be up to date at all times.

​Please Note: ​We are requesting that all students when replacing their laptops to go to a PEN ENABLED Device

Windows computers

General purpose

These devices will be suitable for general purpose computing, excluding Video Editing and Autodesk (Revit, Inventor and Auto CAD).

Windows Machines (Entry Level/ General Purpose) – Core i5, M1 chip, 8GB Ram, Wireless Network 5Ghz., 512GB SSD, Battery sufficient to last 6+ hours on Balanced Power Mode.  64bit Operating System (Windows 10/11).

Higher level

These devices will be suitable for higher level computing, including Video Editing and Autodesk (Revit, Inventor and AutoCAD).  Windows Machines (Autodesk/Adobe Suite) – Core i7, 16GB Ram, Wireless Network 5Ghz., 512GB SSD Battery sufficient to last 6 hours on Balanced Power Mode, 64bit Operating System (Windows 10/11).

HARD DRIVES: Many new laptop computers come with “SSD” hard drives which are smaller in capacity but faster than the traditional magnetic hard drives. For additional data storage, a good option is a robust, external USB-3/USB-C hard drive. 


MAC computers

* NOTE - MAC laptops DO NOT meet the Autodesk software (AutoCAD, REVIT, Inventor) studying graphics subjects requirements *

Pre MACOS - Ventura MAC laptops do not connect to the EQ Network.

General purpose

MacBook Air

  • Apple M2​ Chip
  • 8GB unified memory
  • 256GB of SSD storage

What devices are NOT supported?

Microsoft Surface RT—These devices are not compatible with the School managed network.

Linux Devices—These devices are not compatible with the School managed network.

Chromebook—These devices are not compatible with the School managed network.

Android Tablets—These devices are not compatible with the School managed network.

Snapdragon - Qualcomm ARM processor based laptops are not suitable for the school netowrk. This will revised at a later date.


​General Specification

Vendor Portals—options to purchase

One Vendor portals will be available as an option for parents purchasing a BYOD device. The use of these portals is not mandatory and they are provided by vendors as a convenience for parents. The school is not involved in the private transactions between parents and the vendors. The school does not accept deliveries on behalf of students/parents. Please ensure that online orders are sent to your home address.

​​What questions should I ask at purchase?

  1. How long the device will take to repair if broken?
  2. Where does the device need to be sent for repair?
  3. What does the warranty cover and what does it not cover (e.g.​ liquid spill)?
  4. Do you offer accidental damage cover?
  • what are the terms?
  • what is accidental damage?
  • what is the excess?
  • is my device covered for loss and/or theft?

Having the answers to these in writing would be a good idea.
