Recommendations:

  1. Our recommended device is a Microsoft Windows 10 or 11 laptop as the operating system will provide maximum compatibility with school applications.
  2. Do not purchase Microsoft Office for BYOD as it is available FREE for EQ students.  Refer to BYOD Software Applications for details.
  3. Students who opt for an Apple Mac - depending on subject requirements - may still need to run windows programs.  Running Windows applications on a Mac will require extra software or configuration - please refer to the BYOD Charter and BYOD Software Applications for details.
  4. Purchase the maximum warranty available, and Accidental Damage Protection insurance if your budget allows.

The following are not suitable for BYOD

  • Devices that do not support Wi-Fi 802.11n/ac, (5GHz)
  • Devices that do not meet the minimum specifications
  • Windows 10 'S Mode'.  (The 'S' mode is a special version of Windows 10 that must be converted to Windows 10 at home.  Refer to instructions here.)
  • Smartphones
  • Chromebooks
  • Android devices
  • Linux distributions (eg Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora etc)
  • Any other version of software not listed in the BYOD Charter.
